COICA is the umbrella organisation of the national indigenous organisations in nine countries on the South American continent.
The situation is similar for all the indigenous population throughout Amazonia, however in each country they are active and articulate their political demands in a different environment. This environment also influences the political organisation and articulation of the indigenous peoples. Traditionally, the peoples have no national boundaries and yet the organisations have developed differently depending on the national context.
